Lufthansa and lost luggage

I’ve read that recently Lufthansa has an abundance of missing bags, something like 30,000 that are stored in warehouses, etc. We fly to Dulles Airport this week and are planning on checking bags. Their carryon policy even with a premium Economy seating is quite limited. What’s been your experience with Lufthansa’s handling of baggage? Thanks.

Last November our flight from Vancouver to Frankfurt arrived late. Our connection to Rome was too tight for our luggage. By the time we arrived in Rome, Lufthansa had texted us that the baggage would be on a later flight. Delivery to our hotel was arranged but not until the next day due to time of flight luggage would be on. The delivery was as planned. We followed it all via the AirTags in our suitcases. We had a change of clothes etc in our carry on.

If you're flying home I wouldn't worry about it. The bag might arrive a day or two late but it will arrive. That's what happened to my friend last month. Obviously make sure anything important/sentimental is in your carry on.

Thanks for the feedback. Happy to report that all went well with our luggage from Munich to Dulles, via our Lufthansa flight. No lost or delayed luggage.

On this year's trip Vancouver to Croatia, Lufthansa lost my luggage on route. Well, not exactly. As noted above, sometimes the flights arrive late and cannot transfer bags. Mine were delivered to me in Croatia two and a half days later. the problem is the vast amount of luggage on the N. America to Europe flights, much of it bound for India, not Europe. This leads to line ups in Vancouver, delays loading and boarding. and too much luggage in a 747 to unload and get onto a smaller Airbus. I suspect the problem will persist as long a people take too many bags, believe the connection times, and switch from vast planes to smaller ones. I would recommend to anyone flying to Eurioe these days to try and use carry on. Not easy, but you will still have your bag at the other end.
Just for reference, pharmacies in Europe are often sympathetic if your meds were in that bag or you need more than you carry in your pockets. just go and ask. I got prescription eye drops in Croatia in five minutes with a smile. Lost luggage is an old story.

By the way, Lufthansa can catch up with you if you are in one spot. I landed in Venice, but left for Croatia that hour by ferry. They did bring the bag to Venice on a later flight, but it had to go back and on via Zagreb and Pula on their later flights. I suspect all those who were in a hotel in Venice got their bags that night or the next day.

They never actually lost my bag, and sent me lots of emails telling me where it as once I had filled out the form at Venice and been sent a code. another story,
Still in Europe, but very fond of trains....
