Hi, we are flying Boston USA to Munich nonstop. About 7-8 hrs. The cost of upgrading seats from Economy (basic) to Economy Premium is significant, but supposedly much more comfortable. Is it worth paying several hundred $ extra for the upgrade. Fyi we are late 60s/early 70s. Thank you for your thoughts.
It depends on how well you do in the economy seat for 8 hours. We’re 72 and began flying Premium Economy a couple years ago. From the West Coast our flights are 10+ hours and my body just doesn’t appreciate the discomfort anymore.
It may also depend on your comfort in spending the extra money. We are mid 60's and have chosen premium economy on any airline if available. And we pay extra to choose our seats at booking. We choose to be in the double row along the side of the plane. Though only divided by a curtain, we also like that premium is in it's own smaller area. For two hundred dollars each I'm going to choose premium economy. We also fly out of Boston and have used Lufthansa and Swiss the most.
That site shows the dimensions and spacing of the seating choices.
The Prem econ are wide, have 6" more space ( pitch) and greater recline are are less densely packed ( 8 across vs. 10 across)
"Is it worth paying several hundred $ extra for the upgrade".... only you can decide. If you are 6'4" you will appreciate the extra room much more than if you are 5'7"
Happy travels
Thank you Margie, Don and Joe. That is very helpful.
