Lucerne to Stuttgart - 2.5 days

Leaving Lucerne the afternoon of 4/16 and planning to be in Stuttgart by the morning of 4/19. Traveling by car with three kids (6, 4, 2)... Any suggestions on family activities or towns to stay at in between? Lake Constance? Detour into Bavaria? Thermes? Thanks in advance!

Lake Constance (Bodensee) is not on the quickest route, that would be via the Rhine Valley.
The Black Forest is nice, lots of places to stop. I suggest you do searches for "Black Forest with children" or a similar permutation.
You may not like this suggestion, but I am sure your kids will .... Germany's biggest and best theme park: http://www.europapark.de/en

Thanks Chris! I should have noted that we are already heading through the Black Forest on a separate leg of this trip, which is roughly Frankfurt to Switzerland and back to Frankfurt. Just curious if there are any recommendations for the area around Lake Constance (Bodensee) or the western part of Bavaria... On a seperate note, we do have a day and night in Basel. Any recommendations there?

Lake Constance/Bodensee: Lindau, Insel Mainau (near Konstanz), Stein am Rhein, plus smaller places. Boat trips from Konstanz and other places.

Basel: This is a city for wandering around the old town, and museums.
Two big museums: Kunstmuseum (fine art), Fondation Beyeler (20th century art), but that is not kids stuff.
Toy museum Basel: http://www.spielzeug-welten-museum-basel.ch/en/
Paper Mill St Albans. kids get to make their own paper: http://www.papiermuseum.ch/

And the old standby, Basel Zoo, with newly enlarged elephant enclosure: http://www.zoobasel.ch/en/index.php
