What are some suggested towns to visit between Berlin and Amsterdam. We are traveling by train and this will be our first time in Germany. We are interested in beauty and history rather than nightlife.
That straight line from Amsterdam to Berlin, there used to be until a few years ago a direct night train between these two cities. Now, you can still do that, except you need to transfer in Cologne.
Towns to visit between Amsterdam and Berlin...I would suggest Münster/Westfalen which may be a bigger town than what you have in mind. For small places my suggestions are, without too much of a geographic deviation, Soest/Westfalen, Minden, Hameln, Celle.
Smaller still close to Berlin... Rheinsberg and Neuruppin, spent a day trip in both of these, interesting culturally. If you see tourists, they'll only be German.
"beauty and history":
- Town hall and Roland statue in Bremen, a walk from Bremen main station (Hauptbahnhof = Hbf)
- Stop at Marienburg close to Hanover, lovely story. Directions on website.
- Harz towns Goslar and Quedlinburg
