We would really love to stay at a castle for a night or 2 during our road trip in Germany and Austria.
Anyone has stayed in one and would recommended? I saw this one, Burghotel auf Schönburg, its perfect in every way, but we have already past that area. We will be heading south to Munich from Rothenburg then east to Salzburg. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!
We stayed at the http://www.hotel-schoenburg.com/en/, and it is indeed perfect in every way. We had an enormous room at the top with panoramic views, balcony looking out over the river and a "secret" entry to the bathroom that looked like a bookcase but was actually a heavy wooden door. The included evening meals are multi-course and absolutely delicious. It is quite a splurge, but for a once-in-a-lifetime experience well worth it. (My retirement present from my husband.)
I think it is worth the detour if you want to stay in a castle. Oberwesel is a quaint little town, and we used their tiny train station and KD boats (included in our rail pass) to take day trips to places like Bacharach, Boppard, St Goar.

Both were very nice. Colmberg Castle is about a 15 minute drive from Rothenburg Odt. Veldenstein was fairly near to Nuremburg.
I believe there are accommodations in the Harburg castle in Bavaria (between Donauwörth and Nördlingen).
