Looking for a simple inexpensive nice place near train station in Osnabruck?

I am renting a car in the Gohfeld area, going to Jollenbeck to find a church, then driving up to near Osnabruck to 2 small towns where relatives came from. One is Venne and the other is Oppendorf. Venne could be skipped. Any suggestions where to stay near or in Osnabruck after I return the car. I will be getting on the train the next day or the 2nd day. Is there anything of interest to see in Osnabruck?

"Is there anything of interest to see in Osnabruck?"
Depends on your interests. Check tourist website: https://www.osnabrueck.de/english.html

"Any suggestions where to stay near or in Osnabruck after I return the car. "
Pragmatic: Stay close to main station.

Osnabrueck Ibis Hotel is right there. Seems to fit the description "simple, inexpensive".

I suggest seeing the Altstadt. It has been ages since I was in Osnabruck visiting the city. In 2016 I had to change trains there, had some time to spend at the station, which has hardly changed compared to other city stations. The city suffered a good amount of damage in 1945 as the British had to fight for it before finally taking it.

I agree with the poster that suggested the Ibis Hotel. It is right next to the train station and a quick walk from the entrance of the station. This past September our train was delayed by 2 hours so I was concerned about checking in after hours. It ended up not being a problem. There is a kiosk in the lobby. You enter your reservation number and once confirmed you are give a receipt with an access code. This allows you access through the main door and then also to your room. We never even spoke to a live person. The room was basic but very clean.

Thanks for replies. My plans have changed. The ancestors towns are north of Osnabrook and then a little northwest of Osnabruck, therefore I won't be staying in Osnabruck. I am driving to these little towns and would like to stay the night in Badbergen or Quakenbruck which are on Road 68. Question 1...does anyone know the name of the Evangelical Lutheran church in Badbergen. The church records from Langen are now in a church in that town. Question 2...What is the best way to find a room for the night in a persons house or a small place. Air-b-n-b or just look in that town on the internet? It looks like a very small town. Thank you! Another question. Is Langen close to Badbergen? The one I find on the Michelin map is about 2 hours away which seems like a long way. Is there another Langen close to Badbergen, a little west Between Badbergen and Bersenbruck?

I FOUND THE PLACE ALTE-SCHMIEDE BY USING YOUR ADDRESS, BUT WHEN I LOOKED AT THEIR WEB PAGE THERE WAS NO E-MAIL ADDRESS TO CONTACT THEM. I TRIED TO USE THE ONE YOU SENT AND IT DIDN'T GO THROUGH. I HAVE THE WHATSAPP THAT I COULD USE. I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO ADD IN FRONT OF THEIR # TO TEXT THEM. WHEN I USED IT FOR A DIFFERENT PART OF GERMANY THERE WAS A 10 DIGIT # WITH 2 ADDITIONAL NUMBERS IN FRONT OF THAT. I COULD MAIL THEM, BUT THAT MIGHT TAKE FOREVER! I DID SEE THE ST. GEORGE CHURCH ON THE MAP IN BADBERGEN AND THOUGHT THAT MIGHT BE THE CHURCH. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. I FOUND THAT LANGEN IS BA-LANGEN AND IS VERY NEAR BADBERGEN. GROTHE IS A SMALL TOWN NORTH OF BADBERGEN WHERE THE OLDER GENERATION CAME FROM. I MAY BE ABLE TO FIND THESE SMALL TOWNS ON GOOGLE MAPS . THEY ARE NOT ON THE MICHELIN MAP. I HAVE A COPY OF A MAP FROM SOME RELATIVES FROM 1979 THAT SHOW THE TOWNS. THE OLDENST GENERATION WAS BORN IN LANGEN IN 1777 AND THE NEXT GENERATION WAS BORN IN 1814 IN GROTHE, HANNOVER, PRUSSIA. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.

To call Germany from USA, dial 01-49-German phone number. Omit the leading "0" in the number. They may not speak English on the other end. You might start with "Bitte, Sprechen Sie English?" And be sure to call during their business hours, 9 to 5 in Germany correcting for the time difference.
At 25 EUR per night, this looks like a typical German B&B type of place.

I found them on Distance calculator. I sent them a message in WhatsApp. I will try to call during their hours. Isn't it expensive to call from the USA to Europe? Their e-mail I found on distance calculator wouldn't go through. Thank you.

It could easily be that a trip to Badbergen is pointless, because the Church records are not kept there but at some central location (in the Protestant churches, unlike the Catholcis, that's not uniformly regulated). Since the responsible Kirchenamt in Osnabrück has a department "Kirchenbuchamt", I would guess that babtismal records and the like of Badbergen are kept there. The contact person is S. Wilde and he / she is reachable via kontakt@kirchenkreisverband.de (that's a central email Address; specify in the subject "Kirchenbuchamt"). The postal address is: Evangelisches Kirchenamt Osnabrück-Land, Meller Landstr. 55, 49086 Osnabrück. (Tell them that they may reply in german; we can help to translate).

Tell them as exactly as possible what you are looking for and ask if they can help you (can you read "gothic" handwriting?). Maybe they have someone who could do some resarch for you in advance (that will cost, but not too much).

St. Georg in Badbergen also has an email address (kg.badbergen@evlka.de), but since, according to it's web site, the parish is currently vacant, I would guess that the Secretary there won't be much help to you.

THERE WAS NO E-MAIL ADDRESS TO CONTACT THEM

not true: info@alte-schmiede-badbergen.de (look under "Impressum")

But a pension that rents rooms for € 25 / night is most likely a place for craftsmen on assembly tour and not prepared to receive normal tourists. However, as said above, I would first clarify if you have really to go there at all (apart from a quick photo trip).

THANK YOU. THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL. OTHER RELATIVES HAVE INFO THAT GOES BACK TO 1777, SO I AM NOT AS INTERESTED IN THAT AS MUCH AS SEEING THE OLD HOUSE, WHICH I FOUND ON GOOGLE MAPS. IN THE MEANTIME I FOUND AN AIR B-N-B IN AKRUM WHICH IS FAIRLY CLOSE TO BADBERGEN AND NORTH OF OSNABRUCK. I WILL PROBABLY STILL TRY TO CONTACT THE ADDRESS/E-MAIL IN OSNABRUCK TO SEE IF THEY CAN TELL ME ANYTHING FURTHER. THANK YOU!!

Not surprising at all that he hung up and that there is no e-mail address.

Going into the small towns, "boonies" or suburbs of urban centers in Germany, I always start off with using the local language, otherwise they'll clam up on you, ie, why should "they" speak English, assuming any ability to do so, just to communicate with you, plus a better impression is made in establishing contact. I don't assume they know English.

... and maybe having a look into the church where your ancestors were baptized? In that case, I'd contact the St. Georg email address quoted above, because Protestant churches have the deplorable habit of being closed on workdays.

Thanks for the great suggestion. I am starting to think that maybe I should hire a guide for a couple of days since I am going to 5 small towns.
