Looking for a place to stay Dec. 8-11 in Munich

My friend and I are staying 3 more nights in Munich after our Viking Cruise. We want a nice 3 star hotel that includes breakfast.
It can be a mom and pop place, but not a hostel, between the train station and the old town. We want to take the train 2 days , one to Salzburg and 1 to Dachau. I know it gets dark early so want to make sure it is a safe area. Do you have any recommendations of where you may have stayed or a great area.

This timing will coincide with the Christmas market so you should factor that challenge and opportunity into your planning. Lots of folks will be there for that. Salzburg also has a Christmas market.

Dachau is a searing experience that only takes a morning or an afternoon (by local transit it is easy) so planning something fun like a Christmas market afterwards may be cheering too. Honestly I use booking.com to find a likely hotel and aim for 8.5 plus ratings and I have always been satisfied... But note that ratings can be skewed by location over some amenities.

Have fun.

I'd recommend any of the Motel One locations (German chain based in Munich). Sendlinger Tor is closest to the city center. There is also Munich East and Haidhausen locations close to the Ostbahnhof (and trains to Salzburg). Nice simple rooms, great lobby spaces, very reasonable cost. I've stayed in several of these and never had a complaint.

We spent 4 nights at the Platzl earlier this year. It’s a really nice place, great location, and the breakfast is fantastic.

It’s right in the old town. Easy transit to Dachau. With 3 nights, I would just spend all my time in Munich - that’s really only 2 full days there and there’s plenty to see in Munich.

We were very happy we did not stay right near the train station. We really didn’t like that area that much.

I would recommend to stay away from the train station. By the way I would recommend this for every German city but Munich particularly because it is for the next years a huge and ugly construction area.

People seem to be happy as well with Hotel am Viktualienmarkt, Hotel Torbräu or Hotel Lux.

I am a Motel One fan and have stayed in them in Munich and Berlin. Breakfast is extra, but is still an ok price. Unlimited coffee is always a deal for me and I like to take a cup back to my room while I finish getting ready for the day.
Pretty sure every place in Munich is safe. It is in Germany where you can walk down any street at night and feel safe.
