long layover in Munich airport

With an 8 hr layover in Munich airport, is it possible to use it to travel into Munich for a few hours? Any other suggestions?

If my memory is correct the Munich airport is about one hour (each way) by train from the center of Munich....

The S8 takes 38min, the S1 47min to the Marienplatz. So there is plenty of time for a trip to the center even if you take check in times into account. Buy an Airport-City-Day Ticket for €12.80; it covers your trips from and to the airport and any other trips inside the MVV.

Eight hours is a very long time to be in any airport, and I understand your desire to make productive use of your holiday. However, if there is an airport I was forced to endure for eight hours, it would be Munich. It is very nice.

Munich Airport is spotless compared to most but 8 hours is a heck of a wait. If it takes less than an hour to get into town, I would make the effort and have lunch/stroll around the old town for 2 or 3 hours, depending on your check-in restrictions. If you've never been, it may persuade you to return.

Nearby Freising is also worth a visit with a long layover. Easily reached by bus.

I will second the recommendation for Freising. It has the Domberg where the Pope Emeritus was ordain (Baroque Chapel), the world's oldest active brewery and a nice old center of town. It is doable in a couple hours.
