Lodging in Rothenburg ob der Tauber

I will be in Rothenburg ob der Tauber the last weekend in August for two nights. I’ve seen a few suggestions on this topic but would like to know if anyone has been there around the same time of year. Air conditioning seems to be scarce, especially in Old Town. Ideally would like somewhere with breakfast, air conditioning, and not too expensive. OR are my expectations unrealistic? TIA!

Do yourself a favor, don't stay in town. Stay at Burg Colmberg, 15-20 minutes away.

Yes, you can't expect old town buildings to have air conditioning.

When we were there in July 2012, it was so cold outside had to buy a jacket. Stupid me didn't realize that it's not 90 everywhere in July.

I have stayed in Rothenburg several times and never had air conditioning. The summers seem to be getting hotter in Germany, so air seems to be a reasonable idea. Still, for me, being in the town and walking about (including returns to the hotel to freshen up) is the reason that I go there. My favorites times are my evening walks. Driving in to see the town in a day trip would not appeal.

I see that more hotels are adding air to meet the new need. I would at least use Booking.com to verify that none have air. Otherwise I would take the chance and tough it out.

Just checked and Booking.com has 7 hotels in August with air at Rothenburg. Prices of some were too high for me.

Hotel BurgGartenpalais, Hotel Altes Brauhaus garni, and Hotel Herrnschloesschen are all three good options with AC. Being from Texas, I would book the AC. The summers keep getting hotter and hotter.

In late-July of last year, my family stayed at Mittermeiers Alter Ego, which is right outside the main eastern entrance to the walled city. Modern rooms w/ a/c, great location, and very reasonably priced. No breakfast, but free apples.

It was quite warm when we were there, so I was glad we had a room w/ a/c.

We have always stayed at Bayerischer Hof.
Just outside the gates. Wonderful hotel, staff is great, rooms are comfortable. They serve breakfast and dinner. Our go to hotel after we land in Frankfurt.
