I need an economic gasthaus/b&b/room in private home/small hotel in the Neukoln/Britz area in Berlin. Ideally, it would include breakfast for my husband and me.

I stayed in the Days Inn Berlin City South a few years ago. I liked the area, but it is a few ubahn stops to city center. Good location, on Hermannplatz which has a ubahn station, bus stops, McD's, & a Karstadt dept store. The hotel was better than I expected, but is fairly basic. Check around for prices.

The "Britz/Neukoelln" area is south of the "Neukoelln" area, but look at the link Going234 gave you. Click on the map, and move it south and you will see a few more places.
You did not say why you chose this district. There is only one U-bahn line passing through it, mostly bus connections to central Berlin. It is largely residential apartment blocks.
