lodging in Mainz

Several days ago some of you recommended the Koenigshof in Mainz. When I tried to reserve it today, they have no rooms when we need them. (Oct 1-2) Do any of you have any other recommendations that are near the train station? We are going for 24 hours due to a layover in Frankfurt and will have our rollaboards. Thanks, Shay

I believe we stayed at the Schottenhof 6 years ago. Its on the other side of the street from the Koenigshof and a few doors down. Decent.

Before I stayed at Königshof, which I prefer, I stayed twice at Schottenhof. The second time I stayed there, my room was a little noisy, but acceptable. Schottenhof is a little more expensive and a little longerer walk from the Bahnhof. I walked by Königshof on my way to the Hbf and liked what I saw. Noted the name and looked it up on the Internet when I got home. I stayed there the next time.

Just around the corner is Hotel Hammer, the most expensive of the three, but still reasonable.

We stayed in the Hotel Hammer - loved it! Right across the street from the train station - very convenient. The rooms were lovely & clean and the staff was friendly & helpful.

I checked HRS.com. The Hammer has rooms but at a steep price for me. I see that HRS has other highly rated hotels near the main train station at a lesser price including "GuestHouse Mainz Nichtraucherhotel", a no smoking hotel. I find the ratings on HRS to be reliable. Gary

According to Hammer's website and HRS's, HRS charges 2€ more for the room than booking with the hotel directly. I didn't think that was possible.

It's a shame Könighof is booked. Not only are they less expensive, their price includes a fantastic breakfast buffet, Hammer and Guesthouse don't include breakfast, at least in their rates.

Did you try Schottenhof?

Forgive my late response. I've been without web access for several days. Thanks to each of you for your suggestions. I will work on your ideas right away. As always, I can't imagine traveling without The Forum.

You could also stay in Frankfurt if you can't find what you are looking for in Mainz. There are some lovely, residential neighborhoods with nice B&B type hotels. Plus, there is the Federweisser Fest on the Liebfrauenberg. This is in the middle of downtown Frankfurt. There is the Farmers Market on the Konstablerwache, one on the Berger Strasse in Bornheim and one in Höchst. (Höchst is part of the Half-Timbered Route in Germany) A visit to the Klein Markt Halle (near the Liebfrauenberg) is a must.

Not sure where you were looking. If I remember correctly they put out a pretty nice breakfast spread.

From Hotel Hammer website:

1 Double room Premium: EUR 117.00 * per room/per night
breakfast: included in room rate

They also have a couple of packages - one includes up to €20 per person for dinner (that pkg does not include breakfast) or another pkg that includes breakfast & dinner.

You're right. Breakfast is included with the price on their website. I was only looking at the room details and missed it.

For the date I checked, Oct 13, the middle price room was 122€ with breakfast. The same room on HRS was 3€ less without breakfast (breakfast was 10€ more per night/person).
