Lodging in Berlin/fun hip neighborhood

Hello,

My family and I will be traveling to Berlin for 3 full days as a stop on our way back to San Francisco from South Africa in mid-June. We are meeting my dad who is flying in from Philadelphia and he will be staying with us while we are there. My dad will be 82 years old is fortunately able-bodied and active and my boys will be 11 & 13 year old.
We are looking for a fun, hip neighborhood to walk around, eat good food, go to cafes, etc...We are happy to take transportation to the main tourist sites if we need to. We are also happy to walk around all day and walk a few hours from neighborhood to neighborhood. Thanks very much for any advice you can provide. We are open to hotels or Airbnb or apartment rentals through another/local company.
Best,Suzanne

Numerous inexpensive or cheap Pensionen in Charlottenburg in spite of the notion that certain parts of it is yuppie-oriented.

We have stayed at the Hotel Zoe several times in the Hackescher Markt neighborhood. Very close to Museum Island and the S-Bahn from the Main Train Station.

Prenzlauer Berg is a "nappy valley" area for slightly older hipsters with kids.
