Lodging in Berchtesgaden suggestions please

We would like to visit Berchtesgaden in late September and we are looking for Lodging.
We will not have a car while there.

So far we have contacted Mayringerlehen and Ederhaus, both do not have available rooms.

We have sent inquiries to Freidwiese and Hotel Hofwirt.

Does anyone have any additional suggestions

Thank You

Jeff

I stayed at Alpenhotel Kronprinz. Pretty standard mid-level Alpine hotel. Without a car, though, you will probably need to take a cab to the hotel, as it sits far up the hill above the Bahnhof... actually, come to think of it, most of the lodgings in Berchtesgaden are far above the Bahnhof, but this one in particular.

If you're not getting responses for September, it's possible that you're trying too early.

Hi Jeff,

Did Sabine Grassl at the Mayringerlehen say they were booked? Just curious if you are using a booking website instead of contacting the places directly, which is what we always do. Same for Helga Eder at the Guesthouse Friedwiese.

I've stayed here, at Gästehaus Alpina, three times (twice under the current owners). It's a short walk up Ramsauerstr. from the Bahnhof/bus station. The website is in German, but the owner speaks good English.

Here is another possibility. I haven't stayed here, but you can see it from the train station (it's right across the creek).

We stayed at the Hotel Bavaria -- http://www.bavaria-hotel.de/en/content/welcome -- as they say on the website, "Being beautiful and centrally located (350 meters from bus & train station, and the pedestrian zone of Berchtesgaden) enables you to start directly from the hotel to your destinations (many within a few minutes walking distance)." We did have a car, but we just parked it at the hotel and walked everywhere.

I don't know what your plans are, but I can highly recommend the Eagle's Nest Historical Tour -- http://www.eagles-nest-historical-tours.com/EN/eagles-nest-tours/index.php?navid=2. It is well worth the money. I had been to the Eagle's Nest in the 80's on my own and saw a lot but learned little. The tour guides are amazing and the tour is well-paced.

This is the link to my blog posting about our time there -- http://travelswithtrout.blogspot.com/2011/10/europe-june-2011-berchtesgaden-eagles.html. Click on the pictures to see them bigger or to just run through them without my text.

Thank you all for responding so quickly. I will check out your suggestions and let you know what happens.

Paul, I did contact the hotels directly and Sabine was the one that replied that there was no vacancies.

Thank you all again... I was able to get a reservation at the Hotel Bavaria. I find it interesting that they wrote, "Breakfast buffet (American style), why would I want American Style, I can get that here.

American style usually means hot eggs of some kind, dry cereal of some kind, etc. Don't worry. You will get the typical German breakfast goodies, too. If you haven't had a German breakfast, it's more like an American lunch. Cold cuts and cheeses. And if you stay in some of the places I did when I lived in Germany, it included a shot of Jaegermeister for the housekeeping staff.

This is a good link showing the breakfast there from Trip Advisor; http://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g187299-d632852-i32349726-HotelBavaria-BerchtesgadenUpperBavariaBavaria.html. There are more pictures at that link.
