Not sure which forum to use so I'm starting in Germany which is why I am here. My husband and I are staying in Lindau then headed to Salzburg. We are driving and Ive been doing a little research Searching for a small town to stay on the way to Salzburg. What are your thoughts about Garmisch? Also looking at Hall in Tirol, Austria. Other suggestions?
Garmisch is a fantastic town, especially if you plan some mountain excursions. Hall in Tirol? Pretty, but it's one of those places you wonder why Mr. Steves makes such a big fuss about. It took me about 30 minutes to see.
Maybe around Tegernsee, DE or more nature/mountain focused Achensee, AT in Pertisau?

I liked Garmisch-P- cute, nice scenery even when the fog isn't obscuring the mountain tops, and lots of hiking and cable car options if you want to enjoy the views from 'up the hill' for a bit.
Garmisch it is. Thanks!
We had hoped to stay in a castle in Colmberg but it was booked. Any cool castles you can stay in between Frankfurt and Lindau? We have been obsessed after staying in an amazing castle in Italy.
Hotel recommendation for Hallstatt?
Favorite hotel in Garmisch?
I like the Atlas Grand in GaP, but if your budget won't allow it, try the Fraundorfer down the street, which has a delightful restaurant.
For a castle stay, look into Burg Hirschhorn upriver from Heidelberg.
Hallstatt try Hotel Gruner Baum
It's has a back deck we ate lunch on -it was wonderful. Hallstatt is worth two nights. It's great. The rooms are so nice.
