Lichtenstein Castle in Württemberg

Hi, this is Sharon's husband, Jeff, posting this time. I am looking for us to take a castle tour while we are n Germany. Any ideas on Lichtenstein Castle in Württemberg? This is about the farthest we will travel with her parents in the car to see a castle. I have not been impressed with the others closer by and Neuschwanstein Castle near Füssen is just too restrictive. i.e. no photos inside. Any suggestions or information on Lichenstein Castle?

https://schloss-lichtenstein.de/en Lichtenstein Castle is a fake castle from the mid 1800s. It has (like Neuschwanstein Castle) nothing at all to to with medieval castles. Both were the ideas of a Württemberg prince respectively a mad Bavarian king. The prince had it built after reading Wilhelm Hauff's novel Lichtenstein. Both are more palaces than castles. Another fake castle (but much bigger than Lichtenstein) is Hohenzollern Castle not far away. Both look quite nice from the valley, but their interior is not very interesting IMO. There are not many authentic castles from the middle ages in Germany. I would only visit Lichtenstein Castle if I were nearby anyway. I would never ever drive a long distance to see it. By the way guided tours in English are only for groups of more than 20 people. You can't see the interior of the 'castle' on your own.

We will be coming from Landsberg am Lech.
Thank you for your insights on the castles. It’s very helpful.

I'm a sucker for castle visits. We did the big three in the area a number of years ago. Lichtenstein Castle is too far for me from Landsberg, the tour is only half hour or so. I don't know what your other plans are but Diessen is a pretty town on the lake close by, and Andech Monastery is worth a tour and stop for a beer and a bite to eat.

We are going to Andech but they informed us that the Monastery is closed to the public.

"Monastery is closed to the public." - the cloisters and living quarter's, yes. The abbey church is accessible, a tour of the brewery is available. A good number of people visit for the beer.
