Leipzig in Advent/Christmas

Does anyone have experience buying tickets for the Bach Christmas Oratorio at St. Thomaskirche in December? I understand they go on sale in the summer. Does anyone know when and can they be ordered online?

I've been to Leipzig a few times but never managed to see the Thomaner live. Either the schedule didn't work or - it was sold out. The Christmas Oratorio sells out VERY FAST.

The concerts are already listed on their website. There is one series of Oratorios organized by the Gewandhaus. Tickets should be available through them. I'd contact them right now and ask when they go on sale and how to get them and mark your calendar accordingly.

There is one concert on Dec 2 with the Leipzig Vocalensemble which sells their tickets online (online-Kartenbestellung) here:

I'd also send them an email to ask when they go on sale: [email protected]

Good luck! It will be amazing! And the Christmas market is beautiful ....

I just checked the Thomaskirche website. They state that tickets for the Weihnachtsoratorium are available through [email protected]. They also give a phone and fax number. The website pops up in English. I looked up "events and tickets" - the box on the right, plugged in the date and it came right up.

Anna,
where did you find the information that the tickets for the Christmas Oratorio can be ordered through the Thomasshop? I only found this info which states the opposite (emphasis added):

"Concert tickets (except the Passions and the Christmas Oratorio with the St. Thomas Boys Choir and the Gewandhaus Orchestra) may be bought in advance in the Thomasshop at the St. Thomas Church and in most ticket sales offices."

Beatrix, I found it on the Thomaskirche website. They have a "tickets and events box". I scrolled to December, clicked it, found another page where I had to plug in the date, the event "concert", the venue "Thomaskirche" and then clicked on "do I want to see it as PDF", which I did. I opened it and the info was there, in the upper right hand corner. The phone number is a little confusing to me, since it has a dash at the end with three numbers behind it, which I think may be an extension. I think I may Skype it during business hours and see what happens. Since they also have a fax number, one could conceivably order tickets via fax.

Anna,

I still believe that the Christmas Oratotrio concerts that are organized by the Gewandhaus and held in the Thomaskirche do not have their ticket sales through the Thomaskirche/Thomasshop but rather through the Gewandhaus. Because it's an exception to the general rule, the info on the website on different pages might be a bit confusing. Scroll down a bit to the concert section on this one:

With regard to the phone number, that's the direct line to the respective office. You simply dial all numbers. I'd be curious to hear what you find out.

Okay, everybody - Beatrix is correct: tickets for the Weihnachtsoratorium - Christmas Oratorio - are to be purchased through the Gewandhaus Orchester website (see above). I called both, the Thomasshop and the Gewandhaus Orchester ticket office. Tickets go on sale on June 1, 2016. They can be purchased via their website from 8am local time and over the phone from 9 am local time. The direct line for the ticket office is (from the US) 011 49 341 1270-280. The young man on the phone said he didn't know the price yet but gave me a ballpark amount of Euro 40 to Euro 120.00
