Lederhosen & Dirndl

I went to Oktoberfest in 2017 but I borrowed lederhosen and my wife borrowed a dirndl. We didn't bother to look around at any shops to buy one of our own. However, I'm going back this year and am looking for some good recommendations. I'm not looking for anything fancy. What I would like is a store that's convenient and not too pricey (about $150 for just the lederhosen and a shirt). We will be arriving at the main train station from Salzburg and our hotel is in Parkstadt Schawbing area. I'm not opposed to buying online either but I'm having difficulty deciphering which sites are really worth it.

Lastly, and this may not be the right place but I think it's pertinent, I will have been in Murren and Salzburg before Munich. So if there are places to buy in either of those two places I'll do that as well. I don't want to be rushed trying to find one.

Thank you in advance.

You have heard about buying online? FrankoniaJagd has a good selection. They are a Bavarian chain of outdoor shops like REI.

I've suggested this before... You can check eBay.de and search for Tracht, Trachtenhemd, Lederhose, Dirndl, Trachtenhut etc. A lot of used Trachten cloths are hardly worn, well taken care of and are in very good condition. You can also find some older vintage brands and Tracht with a higher quality and cheaper price than new. A lot of cheaper modern Tracht is really like a costume now. You have to brush-up on German sizes, but M is M, XL is XL etc. You would have to coordinate with the seller for payment and shipment as many will not sell outside Germany/Austria due to high shipping cost and trouble. As always buyer beware.

When we went to Oktoberfest in 2010 they had a large selection of lederhosen and dirndl's at C&A. That might be a consideration. We are going back next year. I would be interested in hearing what you end up doing.

eBay and Amazon have good option that are one step up from a costume. I have had several friends purchase lederhosen, shirt, socks and shoes from this eBay seller. They have held up for a few years of festival wear.

I’d also recommend C&A for middle quality stuff in Munich.

Trachten includes all of the folk costumes, etc and are primarily worn in the Alpine areas of Switzerland, Germany and Austria. Salzburg can fit you out easily. North of Nuremberg you can buy them but the locals look at you funny. And in Berlin the locals laugh.

For example:

In Munich the Galleria Kaufhof stores will have lots to choose from.

Note: Lederhosen, being leather do not stretch, so actually trying on the pair you want is usually important.
