I'll be flying into Frankfurt Airport on Lufthansa from the US on a US passport with a 2.25 hour layover on my way to Turin. I'll be taking only a carry-on bag. What can I expect when I arrive in Frankfurt, in terms of immigration control, and will I need to pass through security again? It's expected that I'll be arriving and departing from the same terminal (terminal 1). Also, when I arrive in Turin, will I need to go through immigration again? Will I need to go through customs in one or both airports? Upon departure, will I go through Immigration again in Turin and Frankfurt? Customs, or just when I arrive back in the US? Thank you in advance for your help--I haven't flown internationally for many years, and as you can see, I'm a bit rusty.
You will go through Schengen Immigration control at Frankfurt when you get off the plane. Should not be any additional security checks. Since are not checking bags, at Turin, go through customs, usually just walk out the "Nothing to Declare" door, unless they decide to spot check you.
The other way, nothing but security at Turin airport. At Frankfurt, you will get your passport checked and stamped marking your exit from the Schengen Zone. Flying to the USA, there may be secondary security. Customs and immigration at the first US airport you land at and go through US Immigration control and also go out the "Nothing to Declare" door after handing in your customs declaration card.
Thanks Sam, I appreciate the quick response!
Is it easy to find Schengen Immigration Control upon deplaning? I assume it's within the terminal in which I'll be arriving?
You cannot miss it since it is the only exit you can take. But to save time, make sure that you are queuing up at an "All Passports" counter and not at a "Schengen" one.
Ok, thanks.
