We will be in Germany for two weeks in October. Around the halfway point we will be staying In Bacharach for a few days. I’m wondering if anyone has any laundry recommendations? I’m not a fan of washing my clothes in the hotel room sink and have no problem spending an hour or two in a laundromat. Doing a quick map search I could find anything. Does anyone who has been in the are have any recommendations?
Bacharach is a tiny town with few services (and not that much to see/do either.) Looks like Bingen to the south has a Waschsalon:
You can inquire with your innkeeper about laundry services. If they don't offer the service themselves, they probably have a local to turn to as other guests surely have this need as well.
Apartments in the area sometimes have their own machines - in the event you have a reversible reservation.
I would suggest Boppard as a place to stay, more restaurants and services, with a nice buzz, actually located on the river. Bacharach is tiny, charming, but not actually on the river, it's set back a bit. I know RS recommends Bacharach, I think because it's an easy train ride for jet lagged folks. Have a great trip.
Thanks, but I don’t think I want to change my bookings so close to the trip. We will have a car so not too concerned about Bacharach being a bit quiet.
Some places have washing machines in the supermarket parking lots, even in small towns. You may want to search for those.
If you’re military or retired military you can use one on a military base. We used one on a base in Wiesbaden.
These may be the washing machines KGC is referring to: https://stores.revolution-laundry.com/de-de
There's one in Rheinböllen, about the same distance as Bingen from Bacharach.
Laundromats and laundry in general are a thing that should be planned before you travel in Europe. Hotels often offer insanely expensive services, but do not expect any service on weekends.
I pack for 6 days except undergarments...I add a few extra simply because I loathe hand washing in a hotel sink.
On a multi-week trip I try to book a few days at an abb (with washer/drier) somewhere in the middle of the trip. That allows us to get "caught up". I also plan to do laundry in larger cites, never small towns. For example, on our recent trip, we located a very good laundromat close to our hotel in Furth (outside Nuremberg). We did a week's worth of kit there. We did visit Bacharach, St. Goer, Oberwesel (upper weasel, my wife does not speak German) but with clean kit. It's a planning thing.
I have found that a good desk clerk will generally be able to point you to a decent nearby laundromat. Good luck. Try Zum Lambe for a casual meal and good local wines.....
