Latest D Ticket Frustration

Wanted to get my D Ticket subscription for October arranged before I leave the USA, if possible.

Currently, the MVV app allow me to begin the Deutschland Ticket subscription on October 1 (perfect start date for me), but won't accept my US issued credit card. Can't add PayPal as a payment option. Dead end.

With the FahrPlaner app, I can choose October 1 as a start date, and I can add Pay Pal as a payment option. But when I try to pay for the ticket, the PayPal option no longer shows up. Dead end.

Both Hvv switch and mo.pla apps allow me to use PayPal as payment, but only offer option of beginning subscription immediately. Dead end again.

Upon arrival in Cologne on Sept 28, is it possible to go to a local office and purchase an actual physical card with Euros?

I and others have had good luck with Tranzer as a source of the D-Ticket. Link here https://europe.tranzer.com/ticket-product/248

You will pay a small fee of about 3 euro, but you choose your month, they cancel the subscription, and they take US credit cards.

Quick and easy, though you do need to have Google Wallet or Apple Pay on your phone, as the ticket is put into your digital wallet for use.

Here is additional information on the D-Ticket and purchase options from the Man in Seat 61 site: https://www.seat61.com/train-travel-in-germany.htm#Deutschlandticket

Thanks, I just discovered Tranzer and was filling out info when you reply arrived! I'll know in a few minutes if it works!

EDIT

It worked! I spent 4 hours yesterday conducting research, trying different apps, trouble shooting. Now have the pass on my phone, one less thing to think about. Next step esim card.

Next step esim card.

I was happy with Airalo, set up an account, bought my eSIM, it activated when I landed.

Yeah, I was considering both Airalo and Orange Travel. Just need to figure out which plan will work best for my circumstances. Don't care too much about phone calls, but renting a car 9 days and need access to google maps. Not sure yet how much data I will need. Have a feeling that topic is covered elsewhere on forum or somewhere on the internet!

Glad you got it sorted.

I actually purchased my D-ticket today, also. I used this site: https://germanytransitpass.com It accepted my Apple Pay. I've read it also accepts North American credit cards. I liked that I could select immediate cancellation when I did the purchase, so I don't have to remember to cancel my subscription in time. It's already done. It also gave me the option of adding the card to my phone wallet.

I know you've got your card now, but I'm adding this info in case anyone else is looking for ways to purchase a D-ticket.

I used Airalo last year in Germany and it worked well. I chose it over some other esims because it allowed me to set up a hot spot - I connected my ipad to it rather than public wifi when I booked hotels (don’t like having to book with my tiny iphone SE).

I had the same frustration. I contacted LOGPAY directly. They now seem to handle on most German apps the credit card acceptance. They said I needed 3D security on my credit cards. AMEX does not have it but my Visa already had it and it still was not accepted. I finally used Tranzer and it worked well. LOGPAY Financial wanted me to send a lot of personal info I was not comfortable sending. I told them to forget it,that I was no longer interested. Then they continued to ask for the info.

Hey DMan,

In what format is the Deutschland Ticket available?
The Deutschland Ticket is available on the Munich S-Bahn both as an instant chip card and as a mobile ticket in the Munich Navigator app. You can choose between both formats when ordering the Deutschland Ticket.
https://www.s-bahn-muenchen.de/tickets/deutschlandticket

I DO NOT HAVE A SMART PHONE/I NEED A CHIP CARD
The lead time for the production of the chip card is 10 working days (plus shipping)
A replacement card can be issued for a fee of EUR 15.00
Maintenance work: Ordering, subscription portal and reloading an MVV mobile phone ticket is not possible from 15.7. approx. 6 pm to 16.7. approx. 11 am.
The increased transportation charge is reduced from EUR 60 to EUR 7 if the ticket is presented within 14 days - in case it had just been forgotten.

I have emailed several sources in Germany but have not gotten a response if they will ship this card out of the country, or if I can pick it up or buy it in Germany. Looks like a great deal, if you have the right phone.

Interestingly, I started trying to buy a D-ticket on the MVV app for September on Sept 1. Entering credit card info on the app resulted in an error message... until this morning! It went through without any trouble. My friend who is traveling with me got it to work this morning, too.
