Late MUC (Munich International) needs hotel near airport

Hello
We are booked for the Alps My Way tour on Sept. 10-21, 2025. We are flying LAX>Heathrow>Munich (MUC) and will be arriving at Munich International at 8pm Sept. 8 and taking a train to Salzburg the next day. I'm leaning toward staying near the airport and then making our way across to the train station the next day, knowing we will be very tired from traveling all day. That said, it is our only night in Munich and maybe taking a taxi into the city to wake up in town and closer to the train station might be the better option. If you have experienced something similar, I would appreciate your opinion and any info to assist in decision making. Thank you in advance. Lisa Rivera

Hi Lisa. To me, it mainly depends on whether you want to spend time in Munich the next day before going to Salzburg. If so, it would make sense to sleep in Munich near train station for quicker access to city in morning and an easier place to leave your bags until you train out. If not planning to spend time in Munich, then 'wake up closer to the train station' doesn't buy you much; the train from the airport will get you to the train station anyway for your next train. Have a great trip!

I'd say stay at the airport Hilton, right in the terminal. The next morning, get a Bayern ticket for 42 EUR ("we"=2?) and take the S-8 after 9 am to Munich Ost and change there to the regional train to Salzburg.

You will have to go through Schengen Immigration at Munich, then get your luggage, it might be 9 pm by then and you will be ready to get a bite and turn in. Wake up ready to go the next morning.

Thank you for the replies. It is helpful to hear from those who have experienced it first hand. I have booked the Hilton by the airport, as we will likely be super tired. There seem to be plenty of lockers at the train station in case we want to see some of Munich before boarding our train to Salzburg the following day. Lisa

The Bayern Ticket will give you free public transport for the day as well as the train into Munich and the regional train to Salzburg.

If it were me I would arrive and take the S8 to Ostbahnhof and stay at a hotel near there or near Rosenheimer Platz. Wake up and get Breakfast at Cafe Voila then head to Ostbahnhof to catch the train to Salzburg.
