Last connection question

What connection would be easier for a slow walker-13 minutes in Augsburg-no platforms listed on website- or 23 minutes from Munich platform 20 to G1.5-10?

Munich platform 20 to the Holzkirchen Bahnhof (Gl. 5-10) would be pretty far, but 23 minutes is a lot of time for that transfer. Since you don't know the platforms in Augsburg, I can only guess, but still, 13 minutes is a lot of time between any platforms in Augsburg. I'd say go with Munich 'cause you might have more options if you miss the connection.

"No platform listed" - since Augsburg Hbf is under heavy reconstruction presently. But guessing from your other post that you would be arriving from Rothenburg and proceeding to Salzburg the most likely scenario is: your RE from Treuchtlingen will arrive at track #8 (it cannot arrive on tracks #9-12 presently) and your EC to Salzburg (EC 113, I assume) will leave either from track #6 (the lowest track # for east bound traffic) or #7, that's a transfer of just one platform. In any case, it would be a much shorter transfer than in Munich. Please be aware that due to construction work there are no elevators available.

Are you indeed traveling from Rothenburg to Salzburg? You ask microscopic questions, but giving the whole picture will result in more helpful answers.

The 2 of you can travel from Rothenburg to Salzburg with a Bayern Ticket for 32 EUR in 5 Hours and 36 minutes, whereas using IC, ICE, and EC trains it is 4 hours and 36 minutes at best and cost at least 60 EUR with advance nonrefundable train specific tickets and one extra train change. Hardly worth spending an extra 28 EUR and be locked in far in advance to save and hour. No matter what, you are still stuck with a 4 minute change time in Steinach.

On the DB route planner, when you click on the "show details" which shows all the connection times, you will see "station information" at the bottom. Click on that and you get a box for each station where you change trains. Click on those, for instance Steinach, and it will give a list of station services. One titled "3S" will show a phone number to call for "assistance for boarding and changing trains". Call that number before you travel and it will give DB a heads that someone will need extra time to make the change.

Another advantage to using the Bayern Ticket is that it is not train specific, except that you are restricted to regional trains. Miss a connection and you just have to wait an hour for the next train and continue the journey.

4 minutes is plenty of time in the tiny station of Steinach, even for a slow walker. And rather than wasting time in a pointless discussion with those 3S people, just ask someone of your fellow travellers to tell the conductor of the Rothenburg or Ansbach train, resp., that he should wait a minute
