I will be arriving at the train station in Landsberg on July 5th and need to rent a car. The car rental places close at 18:00 and the train I would like to take arrives at 17:40. Is it quick to get off the train, get a taxi and get to Europcar or is it time conusming like when you are flying and have to make your way through an airport, baggage claim etc...
The Europecar location is closest to Kaufering station. if you are looking at the connection, ICE 9573 to ICE 517 at Stuttgart, to RB 57830 at Augsburg, get off at Kaufering at 17:35 and you might stand a chance, but it is awfully tight. Take an earlier train instead. You can take the RE 5760 at Augsburg to Buchloe and change to the RE 93213 to Kaufering arriving at 17:02 and have a better chance.
Landsberg am Lech, I assume. I've been there.
No, it is nothing like "when you are flying and have to make your way through an airport, baggage claims, etc". You step off the train and there are buses right there to take you into town. But I didn't see any taxis when I was there.
What is the address of the car rental "place"? Google it to see how long it would take by bus (or walking) to get there.
But where are you going and why do you think you "need" to rent a car. Have you already looked at the possibility of public transportation? Bavaria is a very good place for public transportation.
Thanks for your help. I didn't pick Kaufering because it has 4 changes and my parents are in their 80's and we will be having all our luggage with us and I thought changing 4 times would be harder on them.
The car rental place we are looking at is Europcar JUSTUS-VON-LIEBIG-STRASSE 5086899 LANDSBERG GERMANY.
It is a 6 minute drive from the train station according to Google Maps.
We wanted to rent a car because we are going back to Landsberg with my parents who lived there 63 years ago when my dad was stationed there in the military. So we aren't "sightseeing" as much as reminiscing and just driving around seeing old sites and such for a couple of days.
The Europecar location is about 1 mile from Kaufering station and 2 miles from Landsberg(Lech) station. Good luck. Call them when you get off the train and let them know you are in the area, Maybe they will wait for you. Like I say, getting off at Kaufering will save 5 minutes and be 1 mile closer. You might also want to arrange a cab to be at the station when you get there.

I would first ask Europcar if they can pick up you at the Kaufering station (you are going through Kaufering anyway to get to Landsberg); delivery of a car to the station is nothing uncommon. *) If that is not possible order a taxi the day before (it's unlikely that there will be taxis waiting at a small station like that). It only takes five minutes to the Europcar office. The RB 57830 mentioned by Sam arrives at 17:25, so there will be plenty of time to arrive at Europcar's before closing.
The two biggest taxi companies in Kaufering and Landsberg are Taxi Thoma ([email protected]) and Taxi Lechfunk ([email protected])
BTW, are you travelling through Augsburg? So you could order your rental car for delivery to the Augsburg station as well. It's a short and easy ride from there to Landsberg. Finally, please note that the Augsburg station is a construction site presently. There are neither escalators nor elevators. If your parents have mobility issues call the service center for help: 0180 6 512 512 (you can ask the conductor in the train from Stuttgart to do that for you).
*) If you have problems communicating with them send me a PM with your details, I can arrange that for you
You all are so helpful. I really appreciate it.
So if I am understanding, the train makes stops at other stations along the route? So although my ticket would have a destination of Landsberg, it will stop at Kaufering and we can get off?
Thank you so much for everyone’s input and especially for offering to allow me to PM you if I needed help with contacting them. You all are an amazing group. Thanks

Yes, assuming that you have choosen the connection mentioned by Sam above, you will transfer in Augsburg to the "milk-run train" (thanks to Lee and Sam for teaching me that funny word) to Landsberg, which has numerous stops, the longest one being at Kaufering, where it has to wait for connecting trains to and from Munich and Lindau, resp. So, you have ample time to exit the train. You cannot miss that station - first, there are indicators inside the train that display the next station (the previous ohne is called "Klosterlechfeld"), second, the train will stop or at least slow down drastically just outside the station of Kaufering since it has to cross the trunk line there. So if you have the feeling that it's time to push the train manually, then you're just getting into Kaufering ;).
Landsberg am Lech is on the end of a spur line that originates in Kaufering, so any train to and from Landsberg has to go through Kaufering.
Cross-referencing to your baggage and transfers thread. I don’t believe you will be able to fit 4 people, 4-28” suitcases and 4 personal luggage items in any European car. I hope you’re beginning to consider packing lighter, as you will all be very unhappy to be anchored by that much stuff.
