Kronach light festival

There was a former poster here that was stationed in Germany and said that the castle at Kronach (Fortress Rosenberg) was his favorite. Last year I contacted the Kronach tourist office and learned that the castle was undergoing a multi-year restoration. That might be undercut the value of the town. I am not sure of the current status. The tourist office was very responsive to an email.

We generally like visits to towns with a light tourist footprint but worthy sights. ADAC rates Kronach as "Sehenswerter Ort" or worth a visit. We are visiting nearby Kulmbach this month on the same basis.

That said, there must be many similar towns near Frankfurt. We really enjoy visits to Aschaffenburg as an example. I am not sure that it would be worth a long journey.

That is pretty long ride for a day trip. There are lots of closer, fascinating towns near Frankfurt. Is there anything special that you like?

These are some events happening in and around Frankfurt the first half of May. Perhaps one of those will pique your interest?

My tips would be the Roman Market at the Saalburg, the Idstein Wine Fest, the German Sparkling Wine fest in Eltville (go to Eberbach Monastery while you are there), and Steam Days in Hessen Park. (this is a great Open Air Museum near Bad Homburg)
