Koblenz to Castle Eltz Burg

We are a family of 5 adults traveling in mid september. What's the best way to get to Eltz Burg castle from Koblenz ? rent a car, take a bus , take a taxi ? I have not found any tours from Koblenz to this castle.

thanks for any feedback.

What day of the week are you looking at? The bus from Hatzenport station only runs on the weekends. If that is the case, you could travel on a VRM Minigroup ticket for 22.10 EUR. That covers the train from Koblenz to Hatzenport and the bus to the castle and return. Bus schedule here: http://burg-eltz.de/images/stories/doc/burgenbus_en.pdf

If a week day in good weather and people able to do a moderately strenuous hike (my 60 yo opinion), you can hike it from Moselkern station for the same price.

This information page from the castle website:

There appears to be a bus company from Koblenz, and taxis from Treis-Karden station.

Instructions for walking to Burg Eltz from Moselkern train station:

It's not difficult. My 74-year-old in-laws managed fine.

Eltz is not the only option. Closer to Koblenz and easier to reach is Marksburg Castle - like Eltz, a never-destroyed medieval castle with tours in English at 1 and 4 pm:

It's a 10-minute train ride from Koblenz to Braubach; walk up (25 min.) or taxi up to Marksburg from Braubach station. There's a little shuttle train on wheels too - not sure about the schedule but you can email the shuttle co. - see email address near bottom of this page:

Mike,

Their website provides all the options for getting to the Castle - http://www.eltz.de/en/planning-your-trip-to-eltz-castle.html . If you travel there by Bus or whatever, you'll need to allow another 10 minutes or to get from the car park down to the Castle in the Shuttle Van (or you could walk). It's quite a steep road leading down to the Castle so hiking back to the car park would be a good workout.
