Koblenz lockers - do they run out?

Hi there,
We're planning to visit Burg Eltz by train / walk in late April. I've read about lockers at Koblenz for storing bags. Do the lockers ever get filled up? We'll be travelling on a Sunday and it's before peak season so I'm hoping it'll be okay.
Edit: also, do the lockers accept coin, card or both?
Thanks,
Jen

Not sure. When I hiked up to Burg Eltz on a Sunday in April a few years back, I got off the train at Moselkern and walked about 5-10 minutes into the sleepy town. Although the then-current Rick Steves book mentioned a hotel that would keep your bags for you while you hiked, it was not yet open for the season. But there was a bar/restaurant that was open. I popped in and asked if they would be able to keep my stuff for a few hours, and they did. When I came back, they wouldn't take any money for keeping it, so I bought something to munch on for the road and left (didn't have time to eat a meal there).

Thanks Andrew, good tip! If they run out, we'll take a look for that hotel in Moselkern.

Hi Jen,

Who uses lockers at Koblenz Hbf so regularly that he / she might give a good answer?

I guess even Deutsche Bahn cannot provide this information (here an answered question from community). But you can try to ask them there. If you get a solid answer please share it here.

If there are any events in / around Koblenz it can happen that lockers are filled up, even before peak season (whenever that is for you). So, hope is a good thing.

Good luck and have a safe and enjoyable journey.

On every trip I use coin lockers in Germany,... Düsseldorf, Munich, Frankfurt, Leipzig, Hamburg. As big city train stations (Hauptbahnhöfen), these have coin lockers not only in one area of the station. It's hit and miss, depending on the size you need.

If they are not literally filled up, you certainly get the feeling that it just might be your unlucky day. I would say the best chance of getting an appropriate locker is in the morning.

As suggested above, have coins with you, the one Euro, the two Euro, and 50 cent coin. . German lockers only take these coin pieces. No change is given (Keine Rückgabe). Keep in mind that no coin change machine is in the locker area. The big lockers usually are 6 Euro.

You'll find lockers inside the main underground passage that accesses the train platforms:

Map of station - to find locker location/symbol, zoom in on platform #5 where the passage on the left crosses.

See the second underground passage on the right? There's a set of lockers at the entrance to that passage too.

I have used Koblenz station lockers on 4 or 5 occasions - there was always something available. May you have the same good fortune.
