Koblenz, distance between train station and K-K ferry dock

Does anyone know how far the distance is between the K-D ferry dock and the train station in Koblenz? We are older and are not sure if we can walk the distance, or not.

I am sorry that I can't provide you with the details, but when my husband and I did a river cruise last year, we had considered taking a trip over to a wine village in Moselle (Winningen). It turned out that we had far less time in Koblenz than we thought so we didn't go. However, I can tell you that I had instructions to take a bus from the ship to a train.

It is about 1 1/4 mile. If going from the K-D dock to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station), it will be uphill part of the way. If you have any luggage, it would be a slog. Take a taxi.

If the plan is to arrive in Koblenz by KD cruise boat, a change in plans is probably in order. There are better places nearby for ending the cruise, smaller towns that are easier and more enjoyable to visit on foot, places where the dock and the train station are much closer. Braubach (10 minutes by train south of Koblenz) is just one example. (See "DB" for Braubach station location and "KD" for dock location on map below.)

And if you are going to the train anyway, there is much less to "see" from the boat once you get north of Boppard. I'll agree that Koblenz is on an attractive curve (depending on whether you like cable car intrusions on UNESCO Heritage Sites) of the river. But the train is so much faster, from or to anywhere, that your itinerary may turn out to be better served by boarding somewhere else. You will get better advice if you are more specific.

If your train trip is very local, the Koblenz Stadmitte station (with fewer trains) is much closer to the dock:

AFAIR, that part of the city is level.

There is also the No 1 bus from a couple of blocks from the KD dock that goes to the central bus station in front of the Hauptbahnhof.

Or you could go to Rüdesheim instead of Bingen. Short, even walk from the train station to the ship. Better chance of getting a seat on the ship too. Just the train and the ship don't match up. Either stroll around the town for a while, or sit and have a Rüdesheimer Coffee by the dock.

And you can get your Asbach Uralt in Rudeshiem.

Here is our experience landing in Koblenz with the KD ferry: we had to find the Pension Hamm near the main train station. Looking for someone to ask for info, would you know, a fellow on a bicycle wearing a big sign 'Just ask me' rode by. We stopped him and ask how to get there and should we walk (with our luggage). He pointed us in the right direction and added: oh, just walk! Then as he rode away, he let out this devilish laughter. What was that we wondered. We started walking. It took us about 25 min to get to the train station. We were spent - but we had a basic idea how to get around in Koblenz (we stayed for 2 days). We still wonder about the strange encounter with this local 'guide'.
