We will be travelling to France and Germany in December with our boys (ages 6 & 8). From what I can gather about the Kinderreich at the Ludwigsburg palace, I think my 8 year old would absolutely love it. He really enjoys dressing up in costumes and is fascinated by castle & palace life. My concern, however, is that he doesn't speak German (neither do the adults, though we are all trying to learn what we can before the trip). Has anyone done the Kinderreich who can give me more info and any opinions as to whether this would be doable with a non-German speaking child? Do the adults stay with the children the whole time? Part of me thinks it would be a fun cultural experience even if he doesn't understand everything that's happening -- but part of me thinks it might be a bad idea.
Thank you for any thoughts. (Bonus question: is there anything to do in the Fairy Tale Garden in winter?)
No experience with the Kinderreich. In the palace garden we did see exhibits portraying some German fairytales. Some of the fairytales were familiar, some not. They were bit interesting but maybe not worth a trip there by themselves.
Regarding language, English has become the 2nd language in Germany, especially at tourist destinations. Some adult would likely be able to help you. It would likely depend on your children as to how compfortable they would feel.
