Kid Friendly Summer Activities near Hof/ Rehau/ Regnizlosau

Hello,

Heading back to where my grandparents lived and now aunt and uncle live, and bringing my husband and 2 daughters ages 11 and 14 to this area for 3 days. We will of course go to our favorite restaurant (still open after all these years- I haven't been back for 15 years!) and do the hike I loved as a child, and we were thinking of the Hof Schwimbad if the weather is warm/ good, but are there any other ideas out there? Old castle ruins to explore? Other must- do's in the area for families with tween/ teens?

Nature parks Thüringer Schiefergebirge and also Fichtelgebirge are not far away - beloved areas for hiking.

Little more distance but unique is cave gorge Teufelshöhle Pottenstein (English description).
Not far from there is Falconry Centre near Rabenstein Castle (link).

Czech Republic is close as well with a lot of former German tows.

If you are interested in history of separated Germany - the Wall Memorial ("Monument DDR-Grenzmauer") in Töpen can be interesting.

This is great! The alpine coaster is something we wanted to try in Europe, and I was trying to figure out how we could get from Salzburg to one of them without a car (we will have dropped our rental prior to Salzburg and then just be doing trains), so this is GREAT! Also, the wall museum would be highly interesting to my children. My oldest has read a few books about this time in history and has a great interest in it. Those two are definite yeses. There are some great hikes in the area that my uncle will take us on but that rock Labyrinth would also be a great activity. Thank you- this is all super helpful!

Just FYI and unsolicited post... there was a US signal unit on the Schneeberg (Fichtelgebirge) in the 50s-70s. The US site has since been demolished. You can still find some history online. There were some old photos. I remember one of Christmas at the Seehaus Fichtelgebirge that still exists. There were clubs that time in Bischofsgrün. Forgotten history.
