For years, Rick's Germany guides included a very helpful section detailing the background behind many of the numbered "markers" that you pass along the Rhine on a KD tour. No longer included. However, if you choose to sit in the lowest level of the ship (enclosed area with tables and chairs), you will be provided with a recording similar to what Rick had previously supplied. But how many people choose to ride down there when the mid and top levels give you the fresh open air? But, no recordings available up there that I was aware of.

I have ridden these ships dozens of times and they have the recordings up stairs on the deck. In English, German, French, and I believe Spanish?
Where did you get that information from that there was no recording out on deck?

Well, there may be a recording but I can tell you when I took the cruise I was on top deck outside and it was unintelligible. Maybe that boat just had a bad recording system or maybe it was too windy out on the deck that day but I was glad that I had a map. It wasn't from the RS guide and I don't remember where I picked it up but it was a detailed map of the cruise with all the highlights marked (if not numbered, I don't remember about that) and it was very helpful. I may have purchased it either from the KD lines or somewhere in Bacharach before I got on the cruise.
I'm sure you can find something online that you could get printed or even order a nice full color one.
