We will be in Munich, Berlin, and Freiburg for a total of 11 nights. Would love to dig into local culture and events -- music, fests, etc. Also curious about local foods, food markets, etc. Suggestions?
Stop in Erlangen between Berlin and Munich for the Bergkirchweih - May 25-June 5. It's been going 100 years longer than Oktoberfest.

Munich is outdoor living in June :-)
Part of our culture is a Beer Garden: http://www.inside-munich.com/beer-garden.html
My favorite one is 'Biergarten am Wiener Platz'
In June is time to visit the English Garden (incl. the Eisbach Surfers); https://www.muenchen.de/en/sights/attractions/english-garden
June as well is the time to stray along the Isar River: https://www.muenchen.de/en/culture-leisure/isar
And in June 2023 Munich is celabrating its 865th birthday. Usually every year there is a 2 days event downtown. Not sure if the date has been fixed already
In the Olympic Park you find the Tollwood Summer Festival Fri 16 June – Sun 16 July 2023. But the park itself is worthwhile paying a visit.
In almost every coffee bar/bar or restaurant people sitting outside. The city is very busy during that time because everybody wants to be outdoors. And do not forget Munich's biggest market: https://www.munich.travel/en/topics/urban-districts/day-at-the-viktualienmarkt
Or maybe you are lucky and there is a concert/movie at Munich's beautiful Königsplatz? Not sure if all the dates have been fixed.
Could be that in 2023 as well there will be during the Munich Opera Festival again the Opera for all: https://www.munich.travel/en/pois/arts-culture/opera-for-all
Or maybe you catch the Munich Film Festival, Summer cinema "Kino, Mond & Sterne" or you just rent a bike and enjoy the city: https://www.munich.travel/en/topics/urban-districts/is-it-really-all-munich
