Probably best to book a round trip on Singapore Airlines to Frankfurt. Head to Heidelberg directly from the airport train station. Then train to Munich. You can visit Salzburg from Munich using a Bayern Ticket day pass. Return from Munich to Frankfurt airport on a direct train for the flight home.

Hi Sam,
Thank you for replying,
I have fixed departure from Singapore to Munich and return from Munich to Singapore.
Other than the 1st 6 nights in Munich, nothing else is booked.
Is it worth doing an overnight in Heidelburg.Am open to suggestions..

If you have your round trip from Singapore to Munich set, you are in good shape.
Heidelberg is 3 hours from Munich by direct EC train. If you want to visit there for a few days, by all means.
If you want to do a Rhine cruise, you could take a train from there to Bingen (Rhein) Stadt in the morning and take the K-D boat from there to Boppard through the most scenic part of the Rhine and return to Heidelberg on the train from there. That would be about a 7 hour day trip.
If you do decide on Heidelberg or another spot, you can save some money by buying train tickets now once you are absolutely committed and have lodgings booked. Saver fares, which are nonrefundable, can save a bit of money. In and around Munich area, you can use the Bayern ticket to visit nearby spots like Salzburg.
