I've googled this but haven't gotten a definitive answer. There was some mention that the Gutenberg Museum had moved temporarily to the Natural History Museum since it was being renovated. Looking for confirmation one way or the other from anyone who may have visited recently. We will be there in a week.
Construction work began in March. It will continue at least into January 2027. The Natural History Museum houses the exhibitions until then.
Update from Aug. 27 (in German)
Thank you, Russ!
You'll only see a portion of their collection at the temporary home. Don't worry there's plenty of other stuff to see in Mainz. The Landesmuseum is just a block away and it's good. And if you're in town on 7 SEP you can be part of the big winefest. Don't miss the Temple of Isis.
Hi KGC
Thanks for the heads up on the wine festival! Unfortunately, we will be in the air on that day. The Landesmuseum looks very interesting too.
At least go see the Chagall windows in St. Stephens. The ampitheater next to the S-bahn station is pretty cool too, as is the fortress above it.
Another fan of the Isis temple.
I like the cathedral here too. The baroque altars and the fact that is over 1000 years old is impressive. Look for the plaque about Charlemagnes` wife, Fastrada, here. She died in Frankfurt in 794, when Charlemagne was there having a big meeting for 6 months.
