September 7 is the first Monday in September 2015. Can anyone tell me if that is a holiday in Germany? If the answer is yes, will all of the grocery markets be closed? Many thanks.

The first Monday in September is a holiday, Labor Day, in the US, but I've been in Germany on the first Monday in September several times, and I've never noticed it being a holiday. Germany Labor Day is May 1.
