Is a guide helpful for Rothenburg ob der Tauber?

I am wondering if it would be helpful to have a guide in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, and if anyone has recommendations for guides?

I would say no, not that helpful. The RS guidebook is very helpful. It is a small town. You can learn a lot just taking the Night Watchman Tour.

We've visited there twice, and found the info in the RS guidebook sufficient for our needs. And the Night Watchman tour is a must do IMO.

I definitely agree with the recommendation to take the Night Watchman tour. He is awesome and the town is so charming to just explore on your own before and/or after that.

I agree with others that a guide is not needed. It's a small place and easy to walk everywhere on your own. I did the self-guided tour in the RS guidebook and very much enjoyed that.

It’s easy to see what you want without a guide. The Night Watchman Tour is a must.

I did go on a tour when I was there with a group. It looks like none of the rest of you did, except for those who went on the Night Watchmans' Tour, which is not an info heavy kind of tour.

If you haven't gone on a regular walking tour, how can you tell people that it isn't needed? On what are you basing this advice? The info in the guide book is probably out of date, at least by 2 years. The only sites in the book are what Rick thought were worth it. His taste and interests may not be the same as yours. It certainly is not mine. Some of his info about Rothenburg is woefully incorrect, but it will probably stay in the book as fact, until someone changes it.

What a personalized tour will do for you? Give you information that is NOT in the guide book, tell you about events or concerts happening in the town right now, recommend places to eat, show you the hidden secrets of the town.

Good points Ms. Jo.

We wanted to see The Crime and Punishment Museum, Nightwatchman Tour, Tillman Riemenschneider Alter and walk the wall.
