Is a day trip to Salzburg from Munich doable?

Planning my first trip to Europe in September and wondering if a day trip to Salzburg from Munich is doable. I really want to see Halstatt and Salzburg and Bob's Tours offers a combination full day tour. Would we be able to get to Salzburg by 8 AM or is that cutting it too close? We will be going from Zermatt to Munich and could cut Munich short a day and spend the night in Salzburg instead. Any recommendations? Has anyone taken Bob's Halstatt & SOM tour?
Thanks!

Two trains each morning will get you to Salzburg Hbf (main train station) just before 8:00 a.m. Looking Up Train Schedules and Routes Online gives you the DB train schedule link and tips for using it. But that's not where Bob's Tours depart from, so I guess you'd need a local taxi and/or coordination with Bob, if you don't sleep in Salzburg.

The Flexibus won't get you to Salzburg by 8:00AM (10:00AM at the earliest). On the other hand, the 5:52 Meridian will get you to Salzburg Hbf at 7:51. Or the 6:24 RailJet will get you to Salzburg Hbf at 7:58. if you go on a weekend day, you can leave on the Meridian train with a Bayern-Ticket, 25€ for one person, round trip that day. With advance purchase, you can get a ticket on the RialJet for 25€ 1-way and come back on another RailJet with an advance purchase ticket or on a Meridian train with a Bayern-Ticket for another 25€.

Absolutely doable. A few friends and I visited Munich in June two years ago and we drove to Salzburg and it took just under 1 1/2 hours. Get up early enough and you'll have no problem however make sure you pre-pay for the tolls in Austria.
