I've looked at the train schedules and it looks relatively easy to get to Garmisch-Partenkirchen via train from Innsbruck. Yes? But, once at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen station, how easy is it on foot/city bus/tram to get to ski rentals and to the slopes? I'm not wedded to GP. We are thinking of Christmas markets, but have 2 skiers who'd prefer to hit the slopes. Thanks, Elaine

yes
I don't know about the skiing
Don't forget the Zugspitze is right there in G-P, too. And, if in Innsbruck, it is also easy to get to Salzburg for Christmas markets which are rather larger than the one in G-P. I also have no info to contribute for getting to ski slopes, but it looks available on Google. I am seeing references to something called Skibus out of G-P near train station. I am even seeing a small map. Something to explore....
thanks, planning to hit Salzburg markets and send the skiers to the slopes. We're not locked into GP, just saw that as an option on google. other easy to reach via train ski options welcome.
If you are Innsbruck, no reason to go all the way to G-P to ski. They did have a couple of Winter Olympics in Innsbruck.
I have skied in Innsbruck and Garmish and in my opinion the skiing in the Innsbruck area is much better.
Still, Garmish is a nice city and the skiing is there for you, also, you can go on the cogtrain or cable car up to the top of the Zugspitze.
also skiing at Seefeld in Tirol, right on the train line
