I have posted a couple different questions already but now my question is: I have one day, from 9-5 to visit Innsbruck or Salzburg. Which would you choose and why?
Easy choice: Salzburg. IMO, its a much more beautiful city with more history, music, art, etc. I found Innsbruck to have few attractions, other than access to the mountains, which you won't have time to see in 8 hours anyway.
Innsbruck is more understated; it looks like guides writers still have to metabolize that the Innsbruck Hofburg has been completely restored and reopened, so that there is probably more to see now in Innsbruck than in Salzburg. But the cozy Salzburg city center is an attraction in itself, so for a single day visit probably Salzburg is better.
Ok, I'm saying Innsbruck, as we've grown to love the old town and just love the high alpine scenery. If you're not heading to the Alps anywhere else, see them in Innsbruck.
