Inner city transportation in Berlin - And city to city travel

My mother and father in law are flying into Berlin Sept 23 in the morning. They will be in Berlin for 6 days.

They leave on Sept 29 to join my wife and I in Koblenz.

In Koblenz we will rent a car together for 4 days for some site seeing in the area.

After we drop the car off we will take a train from Koblenz to Bacharach.

Then on the Oct 4th we travel together from Bacharach to Leipzig.

So, they have 6 days of inner city travel in Berlin.
And, they have 4 days of city to city travel.

I understand the flexipass is good for city to city travel. We got the any 5 days in a month for ourselves and are looking at the same for them also.

However, I'm not sure what mode of transportation is best for them in Berlin. And what kind of ticket they should get.

They can get Zone AB 7-day pass for 30 EUR per person and it includes Tegel Airport.

At this late date, a 3-day Twin 2nd class German Rail Pass Flexi for 292 EUR will work. Sparpreis tickets for 2 are going to run 200+ EUR for Berlin to Koblenz, and at least 100 EUR for Bacharach to Leipzig.

Hi,

Great that they'll be in Berlin for six days. Most likely they will travel within Berlin just in zones A and B, ie Berlin AB, that costs for a single ticket 2.80 Euro. Laterally that covers a lot of ground, unless they are traveling to the non-tourist areas of eastern Berlin.

If they're going to Potsdam, that's in Zone C, ie, Berlin ABC , which costs 3.40 Euro.

It depends also on the hotel at which they are staying whether that hotel offers to its guests a free Combi-Ticket valid for buses, the U-and S-Bahn in Berlin. Get one of these free Combi-Tickets, you won't have be concerned with any sort of ticket or pass since the Combi-Ticket is valid and needs no validation, ie, very convenient and practical.

Thank you Sam and Fred for clarifying the travel in Berlin for my mother and father in law. This is why going on a tour guided group is soooo inviting rather than having to do the homework of planning.

The Zone AB 7-day pass for 30 EUR per person sounds like a great option. And, the Combi-Tickets if their hotel offers it, would be perfect also.
