In Landsberg am Lech -need stitches removed

Again, I am so grateful to have this forum to ask questions. When we were in London last week, my dad fell and needed stitches for a bad cut on his head. We are now in Landsberg and are needing to have the stitches removed tomorrow.

Where would we go? The ER hospital? Or are there urgent care centers/walk in clinics like we have in the states?

Thanks
Sharon

I wouldn't classify this as an "emergency", so ER/Casualty would be inappropriate.
I suggest finding the tourist information office and asking them. It might be an unusual question, but the people there would be locals and know the local facilities and how the system works.

A pharmacist may be able to direct you to an appropriate facility

I'd ask the hotel reception to make an appointment with a local doctor.

I would ask the receptionist at the hotel or if that didn't work-an pharmacist.

In 2008 I had a loading ramp from a Sprinter van fall and hit me in the head. This was a couple of days before our trip to Europe and the Doctor said I could have my wife pull the stitches for me and he gave me the medical sissors and clamp to pull them with. It was not a problem. I guess you could go to any minor medical facility and have it done. Have a nice vacation.

That said, it sounds like you safely arrived at Kaufering, found a taxi, got your rental car (after some confusion), and found your hotel. So far, so good.

Hotel staff / BandB owner have been great resources for medical and dental references -- often at the level of "this is where my mother goes" or "office is one block away."

Thank you for all your suggestions. I went to both the front desk and a pharmacy. They steered me to a walk in non emergency office at the hospital. Just got them out.

all is going well then. Yay. Sehr Gut!!

How is your dad feeling, after the stitches out? Is the arm injury doing well too?

I have experienced a hospital walk in area, in my case just south of Nuremberg and everything was excellent. And the doctor was glad to practice his English - having lived several years in the Caribbean (Grenada). We spent the whole time he was working on my exploded knee talking about West Indies cricket!!

He’s doing well, thanks for asking. The doctor was great. Super casual setting. You would never even know he was a doctor or you were at the hospital walk in area. I used my translation app to tell the initial person what was going on but then the doctor spoke English quite well. Dad is feeling much less anxious with them out. I think it makes him feel “fully healed”. He was really anxious about it. He has a lot of anxiety normally, generalized anxiety disorder, so this heightened it.

The trip here to Landsberg is going wonderfully. Which is the whole reason we came overseas. London and Paris were just for extra fun but Landsberg was the whole point.
