Excited that we will be in Berlin for the first night of this festival. Should we book a walking tour or is it easy to just stroll by ourselves? Thanks
I think it should be quite easy to see on your own. A walking tour could be an enhancement. Its up to you.

Why not with a guide, if you do not knows the city it can be very helpful.
In the evenings it can already be quite cold. Scarf, hat and gloves perhaps necessary.
Thanks Bert = am thinking of the boat trip one. Your thoughts?
Thought I'd post back incase anyone searches for this question.
Illuminated Berlin was fabulous! We ended up doing it on our own. Most of the main buildings were on Unter den Linden and we were familiar with that area as we had taken a walking tour there. Our hotel was nearby in Alexanderplatz ( in fact the RS recommended 100 bus stopped one block away and was a great sightseeing bus for Illuminated Berlin). We did see one of the walking tours go by and it did look like fun. Glad I didn't sign up for the bus tour- it only stopped once per the guide. The website for Illuminated Berlin was updated about 3 days before our arrival and it was very helpful.
So glad we were there.
And Bert = you were right_ we needed the warm coat and gloves!!
