We are going on the Rhine River cruise in March which departs from Basel. We are flying into Munich and taking the train to Fussen for 2 nights to see Neuschwanstein's Castle before our cruise. I was wondering what your thoughts were for getting to Basel. We can return to Munich and fly to Basel, or take the train from Fussen to Basel. I was wondering if the train ride was scenic? It looks like it takes between 5 and 6 hours. The cost of the train ride/flight are about the same. Thank you for your help/guidance.
Take the train. By the time you return to Munich, get to the airport ahead of time, etc, etc, etc, you might as well just train it. I don't know where you are looking at prices, but Dbahn showed tickets for less than €60pp for the 8:15 train. Did you find air tickets for that little?
I was looking on Rail Europe for the train tickets which are $112. We have a $100 stopover fee for a plane ticket from our cruise line. I will look on the site you suggested. Thank you.
Check the Deutsche Bahn web site: bahn.com
Advanced purchase prices for tickets can be as low as 22€. Next day prices are over 100€.
Use Basel SBB as the destination. The duration is a bit over 5 hours, going through Zürich.
