How to train from Frankfurt Airport to Oberwesel and back

Hello fellow travelers.

Arriving at FRA from Berlin on 11/12 Wednesday morning, 10:00 a.m., ish (from ORD.) Want to train from FRA to Oberwesel and then back to FRA on Saturday 11/15 to fly to Berlin on Saturday.

Flying Air Berlin.

How best to do this? Does my airline offer "deals" for fly/rail (the FRA website mentions this.)

Thanks!!

I don't know if Air Berlin offer special rail ticket fares. Budget airlines generally don't, but I would look on the Air Berlin website.

I did a search on www.bahn.de, and it looks as if Frankfurt Airport-Oberwesel can be done directly with a Regional Express (RE) train which runs every two hours, and lasts about 1 hour 15 minutes. RE trains don't usually offer discount fares, and the single fare on the day was quoted as 15.30 Euros. It may be worth looking on the site for discount fares, but the standard fare isn't very high, and if you get a cheap advance fare you will have to buy a new full-price ticket if your flight is delayed and you miss the train you booked. So I wouldn't bother booking in advance for this trip.

You don't mention any fellow travelers. The cheapest way I'm aware of for one person to do this trip is to get two tickets - a RMV (local transit authority at FRA) daypass (Tageskarte) for FRA - Bacharach (€21.80) plus a round-trip DB ticket for Bacharach-Oberwesel (€4.80.) Get both from a ticket machine at FRA Regionalbahnhof.

That doesn't mean you will be getting off the train in Bacharach - the tickets above simply cover the route. You can use the direct RE trains mentioned above. If those aren't convenient, you will probably change trains in Mainz or in Bingen. You can find connections at the DB itinerary page. Enter "Frankfurt(M)Flughafen" and "Bacharach" as the station names. Click on "only local transport" under "means of transport" to find the trains you can use with the above tickets (high speed trains are not possible.)

Russ, she's staying for three days in Oberwesel, so a day ticket won't be useful.

Aha - misread that one. Then yes - your best bet one way is the simple €15.30 fare from DB, as Philip has indicated.

Actually, RMV ticket to Bacharach - 11,20€, Bahn ticket Bacharach to Oberwesel -2,40€, 13,60€ total. Hardly worth the effort.
