How to make a day trip to Zugspitze from Munich

Hello, unfortunately, we have to change the dates and the tour we booked is not available anymore. Is it possible or advisable to do a day trip from Munich to Zugspitze Peak? Any suggestions will be helpful.

Thanks

The conventional wisdom, if you believe such a thing exists, is that you need to go up the Zugspitze in the morning because it often clouds up in the afternoon. That's what happened to me some years ago when I went from Munich to GaP to the Zugspitze. I left Munich later in the morning and didn't get to GaP until close to noon. I had lunch before going up the mountain. By the time I got up there it was pretty well socked in, so I really couldn't see much of the ground, just the top of mountains in Austria and Italy that protruded above the clouds.

A full fare Bahn ticket to Garmish-Partenkirchen Bahnhof is 26€/P each way, so it's 52€ round trip. However, you can use a Werdenfels-Ticket, which, unlike the Bayern-Ticket, is valid all day, from midnight. The Werdenfels-Ticket is valid for the S-bahn in Munich, if needed to get you to the Hbf, and for Bahn trains to GaP. Since it does not have the 9am restriction, you can leave Munich early enough to get to GaP well before noon.

There are some package deals with a Bahn ticket from Munich to GaP and the train to the summit, but I haven't looked into them to see if they would be less than the Werdenfels-Ticket and the Zugspitze ticket separately.
