I’m having difficulty trying to find a nice hotel with shuttle service to Frankfurt airport. We will need to drop off a rental car the day before our flight. We have twin 4 year olds with car seats and luggage for 4 adults so too much luggage for train travel. Some hotels which pop up in “ hotels with shuttle” actually don’t have this service when you visit their website Should we just give up on a shuttle and take a car service?
There are several hotels within the Frankfurt Airport that you could look at. Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn, Marriott and one other that I am forgetting.
BTW, you would need VAN service, not car service with four adults and the twins.
Have you considered renting the car seats along with the car? That would save you having to schlep them.
You'd have a much easier time if the four adults could manage to get by with carryon luggage and you used something like this for the twins: https://younglingz.com/products/dog-lil-flyer
We stayed at Hotel NH Frankfurt Airport and it had an airport shuttle.
I have stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn by the airport/train station. It is an easy walk to the airport, but then I do not have twin 4 year olds in tow.
We stayed at the Hilton within the airport…easy walk. Justneed to ask directions to fine the hotel.
Agree that staying at the airport solves your problem. The hotels with shuttles sometimes charge for them, or they run only 1-2 times per hour. That includes those at Gateway Gardens.
Your choice at the airport itself is Hilton Garden Inn, Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott. Signs will guide you to check-in, and they are about a 5-10 min. walk to Gates Z or A. Sheraton/ Mariott being closer. The Hiltons are both located in the Squaire which is also the long distance train station.
Which airline are you using? If your airline is using terminal 2, then this complicates things a bit more for you. Do a google search to find out if you don't know. In case it is terminal 2, than a hotel with a shuttle that drops off there, is probably going to be better. There are tons of hotels at Gateway Gardens.
We stayed at the Sheraton last year. It was fine and saved a lot of time

Agree. More expensive that other options you may be considering and IMO well worth it. The hotel is attached to Terminal 1, so you walk indoors the whole way. If you need to get to Terminal 2 for your airline there is a light rail link, also inside, connecting Terminals 1 & 2. Lots of elevators between floors at the airport to simplify moving about with kids and bags.
As Ms Jo suggests a hotel with a shuttle (paid or free?) from Gateway Gardens is also an option. I stay in Gateway Gardens and walk directly to Terminal 2, so, I have seen shuttles doing pick-ups, but have never used one myself.
We consistently stay at the Sheraton the night before our flight home. Even though we leave from terminal 2, we just walk a very short distance to the free bus that takes us to terminal 2. Its convenient and very comfortable.
With twin 4 year olds, car seats, and luggage, am trying to lessen their walk. If they can stay at a hotel in Gateway gardens, that has a direct shuttle to Terminal 2, it is easier for them, then having to lug all their stuff, plus kids on the Skytrain, or airport shuttle. If their flight is from Terminal 1, then a hotel in the airport is easier.
We are still waiting to hear from the OP which airline they have which would make it easier to answer their questions
Thanks to all for your responses! We will either be flying out with United or Lufthansa (partner airlines). The hotels mentioned may have limited shuttle service ( I looked at recents reviews by guests), or have issues with 2 adults and 2 children in a room (they are fine with 2 adults and one child, so probably need to make a direct call to the hotel). The Holiday Inn has a sleeper sofa which would work fine, and it was included as a hotel with shuttle service, however once checking directly with that hotel they do not offer this service.
I understand we would need a van instead of a car for transport to the airport.
What seems to be the answer is to just keep our van we will have rented for the week and drive directly to the airport with the entire entourage, thereby eliminating the need to be so close to the airport.
Thanks to the helpful responses!
I have stayed at the Steigenberger, which has a shuttle, and it is just a business hotel, about a ten-minute ride away. I have also stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn, and it is very easy to just roll your bags from the airport into the Squaire, where the hotel is located, although you might have to ask for directions in the airport as I did. The HGI is next to a Hilton in the Squaire. I don't know the differences between the two hotels but there was no evening restaurant in the HGI so we just went to the café in the Hilton for dinner. There are in the building additionally a number of small businesses (a snack bar, a bakery, a Rossmann drugstore - in Germany these have no pharmaceuticals) and the train station is in the basement. If it were me with the twin boys I would pick the HGI or Hilton, but I would make sure I had a bigger room as ours on that occasion was so small it was ridiculous. Based on the idea that you are only sleeping there one night though, you can do it. Breakfast buffet is in the ground floor of the HGI; if you want a hot chocolate you have to ask for to be made specially at the bar and pay for it separately, but we found there is hot milk from the cappuccino machine available at the buffet.
Good luck!
