Hotels in Nurnberg

We will be staying one night in Nurnberg before taking a river cruise (June 15). Any suggestions on where to stay? We would prefer a B&B or small, family run hotel if possible.

It was almost 10 years ago, but I had a nice stay at the Hotel Garni Probst. A few years later, a friend of mine had a nice stay at the Hotel Kieml, next door. Both of these are in Rick's Germany book, and are family run hotels just inside the city walls, near the train station.

We have stayed here a few times. It is outside the city walls, but a short walk to the Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof and old city: http://www.hotel-nuernberg-heideloffplatz.de/

We have also stayed in Fürth (visiting friends) at these two hotels and took the UBahn to Nürnberg . Both are a relatively short walk to the UBahn.

All are 2-3 star hotels with a nice traditional German Breakfast and parking. Nothing to write home about, but comfortable and reasonable.

Where do you go to get on the boat and what time of day? If that's not an issue, for one night (or more) I'd pick one of the places inside the walls close to the train station. And have some schäufele mit knödel or Nürnberger bratwurst for me! There are plenty of places in the altstadt for those Franconian dishes and wherever you stay, the staff can tell you their favorites.

This is a link to a parking map (in the middle of the page) for the altstadt -- http://www.nuernberg.de/internet/verkehrsplanung/parken.html -- which is the clearest map I could find online. The yellow streets are foot traffic only. You can get a typical tourist map from the TI across the street from the train station and your lodgings will also likely have one for you.

Too bad you have only one night. The altstadt will be beautiful when you are there.

Forgot to add another place we stayed twice within the city walls next to the river. It has been a few years ago since we last stayed here, but you could order breakfast from the menu as part of you room price. The river facing rooms also had balconies. This is also in the Altstadt center and a nice cafe and bar too. There is an UBahn station about 200-300 meters away making it easily accessible from the Hauptbanhof, and there is an underground parking house a street over (provided space is available).
