Hi, looking to stay in central area of Berlin where most of the sites, restaurants, etc are located. Looking in Brandenberg Gate area, is it better to go with NH Collection or Marriott hotels? Looking to spend no more than $200 USD/night; thank you for your feedback.
You need to specify month of year to get the best advice. Air conditioning can be a factor as well. That budget seems inadequate for a huge major city, in the most high-demand area of the city. You did not specify a budget hotel chain, BTW.
Hi,
I have stayed in chain hotels in Berlin but never stayed in a NH. The Marriott is a big hotel in Berlin, most likely costing more than $200. Still, I would not stay there. Given your 2 choices, I'd pick the NH. There are other chains in Berlin of very good quality, one does not need to choose a Marriott.
I stayed at the Meliá Berlin on Friedrichstraße & The Spree. It was the perfect location & a great hotel. You did not specify when you want to travel so I can tell you that when I stayed there last October, it was between €100-125/night. I made that reservation 6 months in advance to get that great rate.
I walked inside the lobby of Friedrichstraße NH hotel and it looked pleasant but that’s all I can say.
Hotel location plays a minor role in Berlin because public transport is excellent. Brandenburg Gate has an own station in network approached by 2 S-Bahn lines and 1 U-Bahn line, also bus 100.
btw: we have two NH Collection. Hotel NH Collection Berlin Mitte Friedrichstrasse is located at the main S-Bahn axis which allows fast inner city journeys. Big plus for Marriott is close Tiergarten for running fans.
200 USD / night is easy going in Berlin as long as you do not choose a top event or fair time.
I stayed at the Hyperion Hotel Berlin (which is in the Charlottenburg area) earlier this month. It turned out to be by far my favorite hotel on the entire trip. The hotel is beautiful and the rooms are really nice. There is a metro stop about five minutes away from the hotel. It didn't take long at all to get to Brandenberg Gate. There is a lovely local park practically outside the hotel as well as quite a few restaurants and cafes, not to mention two grocery stores.
I haven’t stayed at the Berlin NH hotel but I really like NH Hotels in general. More so than the Marriott chain in Europe.
Have you tried Motel One chain. Rooms are a little smaller but the beds are great usually King and a very nice bathroom with a great shower.
Are you considering other hotel chains as well in Berlin? I would suggest that too.
