Hotels close to Munich HBf

Im considering an early morning train from Munich to Paris and would like to stay close to the train station.

Is the HBF the Munich Central Train Station?
Any lodging recommendations close to the train station?

It takes 3 minutes to travel from Marienplatz to the Munich Hbf on the super fast efficient cheap and clean underground system. If you want to stay near the Hbf that's fine. But don't think you're confined to the boring seedy train station area just because you have an early train to catch.

Hi,

Across the street or one block down from Munich Hbf are numerous hotels and Pensionen, depending on the amount you want to spend, from pricey to budget. Also, three hostels are on the same block if that's an option. I always stay in the station area, super convenient esp at arrival and even more so at departure.

The pricey ones are Le Meridien and the Sofitel. The ones I can definitely NOT recommend are Europäischer Hof, InterCity, NH Deutscher Kaiser.

The good ones - although the area around the station is not exactly the nicest - are the Mercure and the Courtyard by Marriott.

Really good and cheap is the Meininger 3 or 4 tram stops away.

We stayed at the King's Hotel Center, on the north of the Hbf. You can see it and click on it, including a link to Booking.com, on the map Michael linked.

The area did not seem "seedy" to us, but maybe that's because we were more focused on the Augustiner just a short walk away!

We found the hotel lovely and enjoyed the breakfast. It's proximity to the Hbf was certainly convenient for getting around town and out of town as well.

Bonus: it has an elevator.

I just posted this to another thread. It may be an option for you:

Many years ago (2008) I stayed at Hotel Monaco for one night while traveling. It was very close to the train station and was a great budget hotel. Being so close to the station, it was not in the best part of town, but the hotel was quite safe and I did not feel unsafe walking to it in the dark after dinner. It may be a good option for you (https://www.munich-accommodation.com/route-to-munich-hotel.php), but please check for recent reviews since my experience is a bit out of date.

Good luck!

I strongly encourage you to avoid staying near the train station. We made the mistake of doing so last May, and I found the area to be very seedy. We met a friend from a previous job and his wife for dinner and they kidded us for staying in the red light district. My standards are actually pretty low, partially because I am a frugal traveler -- but really, avoid that area if you can. I can't think of one hotel that we have stayed at in any other city in Europe that was listed in Rick's book for that country, where I would feel the same way about the neighborhood.

leslie,

I usually stay at Hotel Royal, which is very close to the Munich Hbf. The area outside the hotel may be somewhat "colourful", but I don't find that to be a problem. The hotel is very comfortable, the staff are wonderful and they serve a great breakfast. I've been back and forth to the station at all hours, and have never felt that that area was "unsafe".
