I stayed at Hotel Europaischer Hof directly across from train station. I was only in Munich for an afternoon/overnight before flying home, so it worked for my purposes. Not the nicest 'hood but I felt safe as a solo female. Easy stroll to historic area.

Is this for your last night before flight home?

We stayed at Hotel Buddy last summer. It's about 2 blocks from the train station (right across the street from the main pedestrian entrance to the old town - Karlstor. Cheap, good and safe. The best donner kabob place is right next door. Amazing (had a line day and night the whole three days we stayed there while several others nearby had no line so the last day we tried it to find out why - and we found out!). Hotel Buddy is very recently remodeled so everything is brand new and clean.

I am a huge fan of Hotel Uhland near the Octoberfest grounds. It is in more of a quiet, residential neighborhood. Great included breakfast, clean, very comfortable rooms. It is about a 10 minute walk from the train station and about 15 to the marienplatz.

My two overnight hotels in Munich are the Aloft, which is right across the street from the Hbf on the south side, and the Marriott Courtyard, which is a block further south. I've used them many times for business and pleasure.
