I will be traveling to Regenburgs and Passau in December and looking for hotel accommodations. Nothing fancy just clean and nice. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
You do not want anything fancy, but you are open to all suggestions - in Regensburg I once stayed at the Sorat Insel. It is an old mill on a little island in the middle of Danube, converted to a good hotel; the city is reached through a medieval bridge. I was given a room looking on the river. Getting awake one morning and looking to the city covered with snow on the other side of the river, and the Gothic Cathedral on the back glistening with ice, is one of the nicest memories of all my travels.
We have stayed a few times at the Hotel Weidenhof in Regensburg. Nice but not fancy as you suggested. It is about 3 blocks from the train station into the pedestrian zone. Good staff 24 hours a day. Good breakfast.
We have only visited Passau once and stayed at the Hotel König. It is a very nice hotel on the River Donau (Danube) with a great breakfast. Price seems to fluctuate quite a bit with the season. We were there in December and got a bargain to my taste. Other times that I have checked, it was out of my range.
We reserve both places on hrs.com, which makes it easy to check prices, location and value.
When it comes to hotels there's a lot to consider... I suggest you go to Tripadvisor, where there's a treasure trove of information from hundreds and hundreds of previous guests where you can search within your price range and where you can narrow your search based on criteria that probably do matter to you (location, breakfast hours, etc.) Here, a lot of options that might suit you probably won't get mentioned because of the limited number of respondents; also, there aren't many of us here who have stayed in more than one hotel in either city - all we can do is pass on the one place we stayed the one time (or the two times) we were in town.
